LAWSON BETTY B. Of McCandless, formerly of Glenshaw, went to heaven peacefully on March 8, 2015. She was the loving mother of Dennis Lawson of Butler, PA and Jeffrey (Alice) Lawson, of Biloxi, MS. She was a homemaker for much of her life, but also enjoyed traveling and tennis. It was on the tennis courts in Boca Raton, FL, where she lived for nearly two decades, that she met so many people who would become lifelong friends. She loved her family and her many great friends. She had a special place in her heart for her "surrogate" grandchildren, Christina, Andrew, Emily and Michael Koman. She loved them immensely. The family also wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Chris Koman and Mrs. Monica Koman, for their incredible kindness. The family would also like thank the staff at UPMC Cranberry, for their caring and compassion these last several months. Family and friends will be welcomed to Elfinwild Presbyterian Church at 3200 Mt. STEINMETZ HELEN M. Age 100, of Troy Hill, on Friday, March 13, 2015. Dear sister of the late Elmer, Clarence, Robert, Marie, and Mildred. Helen is survived by 15 loving nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews and their families. Helen lived her whole life on Troy Hill and worked for her brother at Triangle Welding Co. for almost 40 years. She then started her second career as a volunteer spending over 28 years at Divine Providence Hospital and joining the hospital auxiliary. In addition, she volunteered at the St. Anthony's Chapel store on Troy Hill. In 1990, she received a plaque that recognized her outstanding community service to the Citiparks Senior Center Program and the Pittsburgh Community. FLAHERTY WILLIAM P. “BILL” Age 90, of Green Tree, passed peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2015, after a brief illness. Born on October 26, 1924, and raised in Knoxville, PA. Bill eventually enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Monterey throughout the course of WWII. From that point on he was employed by the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad as an electrician, until his retirement. During this time he met his wife to be, Vera B. Fox (originally from Galway, Ireland), to whom he was married for 46 years. After his wife's passing, Bill moved to the Vanadium Woods Independent Living Facility, where he was very active in programs and acquired a large number of true friends. He was jokingly referred to as “the Mayor of Vanadium Woods”. Bill was also an active member of St. Margaret of Scotland Church of Greentree and a lifelong member of the VFW Post #823. Bill also donated a generous amount of time as a member to helping the people of the St. Vincent dePaul Society. Where in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Bill's name to the St. Vincent dePaul Society C/O St. Margaret of Scotland, 310 Mansfield Avenue, Pgh., PA 15220. Preceded by his wife; and his brother, Leo Flaherty of Scott Twp. Bill is survived by his son, Brian Flaherty (Deborah); and two amazing grandchildren, Liam and Shea Flaherty of Waterford, CT; and his sister, Anna May Kapfer of Brentwood. As a member of a large family Bill is also survived by many many nephews and nieces and their many children here in Pittsburgh, throughout the country and in Ireland. Bill truly loved Pittsburgh, his family and his friends with all of his heart. Go Steelers! ANDREW BETTY T. Age 81, of Lincoln, Delaware, died Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Milford Manor. She was born in Bradford, PA, the daughter of the late Levi and Ethel Farley-Timblin. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Andrew; and a brother, Allen Timblin. Betty worked at the Black Box Corporation in Telesales Marketing. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Milford and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Milford Senior Center, and Walking Club. Mrs. Andrew loved to read, cook and clean. She is survived by three children, William Mark and wife, Caroll, Richard D. and James A. Andrew; one brother, Leroy A. Timblin; also nine grandchildren, Jason, Shayna, Coutrney, Lindsey, Kari, Kylie, Sharron, Devon and Kaegan; and two great-grandchildren, Ana Belle and Illyana; several cousins. Husband of Helen Zorn and the late Dorothy Collinger Zorn; son of the late Philip J. and Margaret Hammel Zorn; father of Dorothy Zorn (James, Jr.) Joyce; brother of the late Louis E. Zorn; grandfather of James E. Joyce III and Colleen Joyce (Tim) Murray; great-grandfather of Nicholas, Zachary and Madalena Joyce, Emily and Dylan Murray; great-great- grandfather of Neal Joyce. In addition to a 30 year career at Bethlehem Steel in the fabrication division, Mr. Zorn managed operations at Rochez Brothers Steel and Union Switch and Signal and most recently retired as Vice President of Operations at Kasgro Specialty Rail Car Solutions in New Castle, PA, at age 82. Sergeant Zorn proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Normandy, N. France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Stars.
