MURRAY ROBERT A., JR. ROBERT A...
MURRAY ROBERT A., Jr. Robert A. Murray, Jr., formerly of Pittsburgh, PA and New Smyrna Beach, FL passed into the care of our Lord on May 21, 2017. Mischievous son, athletic brother, courageous warrior, loyal husband, honored father, beloved grandfather and great-grandfather, Mr. Murray was a highly regarded commercial real estate development professional in the Pittsburgh business community and other major northeastern cities. Bob's achievements, contributions and brotherhood spanned over 90 years of a full, vibrant and productive life. A dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates, "Bobby" was an accomplished athlete, but self-admitted indifferent scholar, who quarterbacked a Brentwood Spartans grinding single-wing attack before enlisting in the American Army. A World War II paratrooper and sergeant in America's renowned 11TH Airborne Division, Bob served with distinction and honor, experiencing combat in the Philippines and subsequent occupation duty in Sendai, Japan, before returning home to marry his high school sweetheart, the late Jane
(Janie Grace)
Stilley Murray. Together, these two intrepid souls purchased a farmstead in then rural North Strabane. There, they managed to run a dog boarding kennel, breed championship Boxers, refurbish a hundred-year-old farmhouse and acquired three horses to entertain their growing family of four healthy, energetic boys. While managing these exploits, Bob continued his highly successful business career, rising to Vice President of Pittsburgh's prestigious Oliver Tyrone Corporation. After retiring, he and his wife relocated to New Smyrna Beach, Florida. United in holy matrimony for over 60 years, Mr. Murray, following the passing of his beloved wife, remained a vital presence in the Sugar Mill community from her passing to this date. An avid golfer and popular fixture in the Sugar Mill community of New Smyrna Beach, Mr. Murray continued to enjoy many friendships and frequent visits of his growing family. Mr. Murray was the son of the late Ada Parker and Robert A. Murray, Sr. He is survived by three sons, Robert A. Murray III (June), Victor B. Murray (Lynne) aand Douglas D. Murray (Sherri); and six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews; as well as two surviving sisters, Deborah Hartman and Ruth Dewalt. He was preceded in death by his deeply missed wife of 60 years, the late Jane Grace Stilley Murray; two brothers, Earl and Thomas Murray; and sister, Mary Jane (Murray) Layman. Predeceased by one son, Scott J. Murray, our father is now welcomed home to the eternal peace and loving grace of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. A private memorial service and military honor interment will be privately held in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Donations to the Boys & Girls Club of America, the Volusia County Hospice, Florida or a charity of your choice in Bob's memory would be deeply appreciated. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
