PAULLO DONALD D., Sr. Age 74, passed Saturday, July 1, 2017, in Houston, Texas. Don was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania on December 20, 1942, to Clyde and Alvira (Zuccolotto) Paullo, and grew up in Morgan, Pennsylvania. He graduated from South Fayette Township High School in 1960 and Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1964 with a teaching degree. After graduation Don married and moved to Ohio residing for many years in Westerville, Ohio. He had a long sales career with Ohio Bell Telephone Co. retiring in 1991. Don was very proud of his two sons and five grandchildren. He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed sharing his love for hunting, fishing and golf with those around him. His Italian heritage, was also very important to him and he often could be found sharing cooking, and gardening traditions with family and friends. Don is survived by his twin brother, Ronald D. Paullo, of Bristol, Maine; son, Don Paullo, Jr. and his wife, Brandi, of Houston, Texas, son, Grant Paullo and his wife, Michelle, of Ramsey, New Jersey; and five grandchildren, Elysia, Gabrielle, Ramsey, Luca, and Lila. FOWLER DAVID HENRY Professor Emeritus David Henry Fowler (92) of Manchester, CT, beloved husband of the late Lois Josephs Fowler, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, July 5, 2017. David was born in West Barrington, Rhode Island on September 28, 1924, son of the late Henry and Dorothy Fowler. After volunteering for service in the Army, David served in the European Expeditionary Force in France as an engineering specialist. After the war, he completed his bachelor's degree at Oberlin College and had a career in journalism that included working on staff at the Hartford Courant. In 1959 David came to Carnegie Mellon University, then Carnegie Institute of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in history from Yale University in 1963 and he then spent the rest of his career at Carnegie Mellon. Dr. Fowler was the acting head of the department for several periods. He taught courses relating to minorities in American history, the American Presidency, the development of American Society, business history and advertising, and the American Constitution. In addition, David was active in numerous scholarly and social organizations both on and off of the campus. David is survived by his daughter, Denise (Doug) Berczik; stepsons, Daniel (Nadine) and David (Wendy) Josephs; his grandchildren, Nicole Bornhorst, Jason Napolitano, and Amanda Napolitano; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Ann Wahl; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his wife, David was predeceased by a brother and two sisters; his son, Henry "Mark" Fowler; his daughter, Laurel Lindley; and his grandson, Eric Berczik. RODELL RACHEL M. Rachel Mae Rodell, age 84, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Friday, June 7, 2017, at Latrobe Hospital after a brief illness. She was born December 19, 1932, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Paul and Jessie Mark Nelson. Prior to retirement, she worked as a church organist, homemaker, mother, telephone switchboard operator, receptionist and sales clerk. A lifelong advocate of human organ donations, she'd previously volunteered as a host driver for families of loved ones who were undergoing organ transplants at UPMC. She fondly recalled being an overseas chaperone for high school bell ringers for Southminster Presbyterian Church in Mt. Lebanon, where she reveled in the friendships and cheerful obligations that went along with being an alto in the church choir. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Rodell, in 2004. She is survived by her adoring sons, Eric (Susan) of Nashville, and Christopher (Valerie) of Latrobe. Her greatest joys came from time spent with her grandsons, Brad and Matt; and her granddaughters, Josie and Lucy. In accordance with her adamant wishes, her body is being generously donated to Humanity Gifts Registry, which ensures the next generation of rising doctors will grow confident and experienced in actual human anatomy to one day soon begin saving our living loved ones. BALMER LEAH ROSE Leah Rose Balmer, age 89, of Edgewater, Florida, formerly of Sturgeon, PA, passed away on July 7, 2017, while a resident of the Ocean View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Smyrna Beach, FL. She was born September 19, 1927, to August and Rose Depasse Bonnaure in Sturgeon, where she lived for 65 years. On July 9, 1947, she married Edward A. Balmer, who preceded her in death in 1978. She also was preceded in death by her mother and father; her sisters, Clarise Delaney and Evelyn Bastide; and her brother, Augie Bonnaure, all from Sturgeon. Leah is survived by her sons, Edward A. (Judy) Balmer and Jesse Balmer, with whom she lived for 23 years in Florida; and a daughter, Michele Balmer (significant other, Tim Linhart); two brothers, Paul (Kay) Bonnaure and Gilbert Bonnaure, both of McDonald, PA; and brother- in-law, Robert Balmer of Sturgeon; and a wonderful, large extended family of nieces, nephews, and "greats". She loved them all! Leah graduated from South Fayette schools and worked for 20 years at John Kane Hospital as a Nursing Aide. She was a member of St. Gerard's Catholic Church in Edgewater, FL, and a former member of St. Patrick's Church in Noblestown, PA. She was a member of the "Florida Association" in Edgewater where she made many new friends, played cards and Bingo and went on field trips and to the theater. and cheered her beloved Iron-Curtain team on with her "Steelers Family" of friends, who often congregated at her son's home to watch the games. Her "best friend" was her dog, Chelsea, who often sat on her lap during the Soaps. Leah also loved visiting her old schoolmates in Sturgeon every time she made the trip "up North". RONDINELLI ARNOLD ARMOND SPIDER Age 82, a well-known jazz musician from Clairton, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 10, 2017. He was born February 5, 1935 in Clairton to the late Anthony and Angeline Macioce Rondinelli. Along with his loving wife of 41 years, Georgina, he is survived by son, Michael (Paula) Rondinelli of Louisville, KY; grandsons, Jared and Avery; brother, Naz (Elsie) Rondinelli of San Diego, CA. Along with his parents, Spider was preceded in death by sister, Marlene Decima. After graduating from high school in 1953, he worked his first job as a musician at the Point Vue Hotel in Brentwood. In 1960, Spider was drafted and spent two years in the service with the 113th Army Band, based at Fort Knox, KY. After his discharge in 1962, he returned to Pittsburgh but was itching to hit the road and went to Chicago. Spider returned to Pittsburgh for a bit and moved on to St. Thomas for more than four years but, as usual, returned to Pittsburgh to do what he loved. Jazz is going to save the world, he said. Jazz music has given me security. I have done nothing else in my life. My father wanted me to be a tap dancer, but I preferred to play the music that made me want to dance. Poco worked for Walmart in North Versailles and had previously worked for the Marriott Corporation in Maryland and Tramp's in Pittsburgh. He was a 1980 graduate of Serra Catholic High School and attended Mount Union College where he played football. He was also a graduate of Community College of Allegheny County. Poco was an avid runner and participated in many Triathlons. He enjoyed family, friends, music and playing pool. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Andrea J.
