Arnold began his pediatric career as a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He then established his own pediatric practice in the South Hills area which eventually grew to include seven more physicians. Dr. Steinman was affiliated with St. Clair Hospital and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Multiple generations of families in Pittsburgh will fondly remember Dr. Steinman as a gentle, devoted pediatrician, who always had a smile. He regarded his staff and patients as his larger “family” for the 45 years of his practice. He was also instrumental in the formation of Pediatric Alliance, an organization that supports the goal of helping pediatricians operate a practice independently of the large hospital systems. Dr. Steinman served as president of the Alliance from 1995-1997. Arnold will also be remembered for his lifelong passion for jazz. He was a talented musician who played the clarinet and the alto saxophone. In his younger years, he formed a band that toured various states as well as the Pittsburgh area. His other interests included watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and following the stock market. After he retired in 1996, he and his wife divided their time between Pittsburgh and their cottage on Lake Michigan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his family and the large circle of friends who loved and admired him. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
