REES DAVID B. AGE 89, A RESIDE...

REES DAVID B. Age 89, a resident of the Masonic Village at Sewickley, formerly of Ben Avon, on March 30, 2014. As a veteran of WWII, Mr. Rees graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1947 and worked for the American Bridge Company until his retirement. During his career as a civil engineer, he oversaw projects on the construction of bridges throughout the world. One of his notable achievements was his appointment as project manager of the construction of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York in 1964, which, until 1981, held the record as the longest suspension bridge in the world. David was very involved in the Ben Avon Community, serving as a member and president of the Volunteer Fire Company, member of the Borough Council, and a deacon in the Ben Avon Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Avalon Lodge #657 F&AM. During his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, fly-fishing, and spending time with his family. Mr. Rees was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Ruth (McKnight) Rees and Doris DeStein Rees; father of David, Jr. (Bonnie) of Wyomissing, Jim (Diane) of Pomfret, CT, Bob (Kathy) of Ohio Twp., Bruce (Sue) Rees of Emsworth, and Eleanor Lehman (Steve) of State College; also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
