
HOFFMAN Dr. BETTY (PEIRSOL) Of Murrysville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 16, 2014. She was surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Dillworth and Emma Amsler Peirsol. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Peirsol. Dr. Betty was one of the first women to become a board certified surgeon. She was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Allegheny Medical Society, a board member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association, and an active participant in HOME (Health Outreach to the Middle East). Dr. Betty and her husband went all over the world on various medical mission trips. She taught surgery and healed the sick. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women. Many awards were given to her for her medical achievements, including "Woman of the Year" from Geneva College. Dr. Betty was one of the pioneers in the development of the Emergency Medical System of Western PA. Despite all of her medical activities, she was a tirelessly devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Jay B. Hoffman of Murrysville; her two sons, David (Tamys) Hoffman of Seattle, WA and Daniel (Tina) Hoffman of Irwin; and six grandchildren, Andrew, Austin, Masha, Victoria, Hannah, and Alexandra. Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the HART FUNERAL HOME, INC., Murrysville. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Penn Hills Alliance Church with Pastor Daniel Moyer officiating. Everyone please meet at the church. Interment will be private.
