Joan Miscoe was born January 6, 1927, in Johnstown, the daughter of S. Edward and Helen (Vindisch) Miscoe. After surviving a lengthy childhood illness that affected her later in life, she was class vice-president and graduated from Johnstown High School in 1945. Joan worked at the Johnstown Tribune, where her father, Ed, was a typesetter and proofreader for decades. She greatly enjoyed her roles in advertising layout and as an executive assistant for several years. Joan and Tom Young were married September 9, 1950, in Johnstown. She reveled in all types of word games, including Scrabble, Words with Friends and crossword puzzles. Earlier in life, Joan was a golfer, once winning the women's nine-hole championship at Wildwood Golf Club. She delighted in cooking, sewing, gardening, traveling to see family, cruises, wallpapering (thanks Mom), playing the piano, and making dried flower arrangements. She will also be fondly remembered for her charity work, including Meals-on- Wheels and the Christ Child Society. Joan was exceptionally upbeat, positive, and never had a bad word to say about anyone or in any situation.
