CLOSSON ROBERT MEEHAN Age 78, of Washington Twp., passed away peacefully in his home, February 6, 2014. He was born November 12, 1935, to the late Vera Jeannette (Barkes) and Robert Meehan Closson, Sr. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bob was a 1953 graduate of Pitcairn High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for eight years. He loved his church, his family and friends, was an avid reader of history and other non-fiction books, enjoyed playing chess, doing things for family and friends, and spending time with those he loved. After retiring from Bell Telephone in 1984, he and his wife pooled their talents to develop Closson Press, a genealogical and historical publishing company. Bob prided himself in being able to help people find and preserve their family records. Survivors include his beloved wife, Marietta "Mary" (Fowler) Closson of almost 42 years, married April 1, 1972; a son, Lloyd (Lisa) Closson of Pleasant Grove, UT; stepdaughter, Melanie (Doug) Sam of Greensburg; and five grandchildren with Mary. He had three children from a previous marriage, Michael (Michelle) Fox, Kelly Patterson, and Judy (Rob) Fair; as well as seven grandchildren from that union. He regarded his mother and father-in-law, Dorothy (Venter) and Montague Fowler, Jr. of Saltsburg as his second parents; very close also were his brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Bonnie (Petro) Fowler of Avonmore; and nieces and nephews, Don and Jenny (Fowler) West of Avonmore, Heidi Fowler of Pittsburgh and Jim (Kathy) Honeywell of Vernon Hills, IL. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Sullivan and Barbara Closson. Friends will be received Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at MAURICE L. KNEE, LTD. FUNERAL HOME, 7663 Saltsburg Rd. (across from S & T Bank), Plum, and on Monday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pittsburgh 3rd Ward Building, 710 New Texas Rd., Plum, PA 15239, where a Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. In lieu of flowers, the Closson family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15205 or www.cancer.org. Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
