GAERTNER MARGARET (CONROY) On January 27, 2014, Margaret passed away peacefully, at age 94, with her family at her side. She is survived by her loving children, Mary Baldwin, Paul (Kathy), Jane (Neil), Louis (LeNise), Charles (Elaine), Susan and Dorothy (Ed) Voelker; and her adoring grandchildren, Beth (Dave), Becca, Bill (Cassidy), Kate, Tiffany, Celestial, Mark, Woodrow, Robert, Greta, Van, John, Christopher, Emily, Sarah and Anna; and two great- grandchildren, Justice and Lydia. Loving sister to Frances, Coleman, Veronica, Jack, Sr. M. Coleman, Agnes, Teresa, Mark, Joseph and Annamarie. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, friends and her dear friend, Esther. Margaret was a woman of tremendous kindness, grace and boundless love, who was beloved by all who knew her. Born in Pittsburgh in 1920 to Mark and Margaret Conroy, who immigrated from County Galway and County Mayo, Ireland, respectively. In 1951 she married WWII veteran and electrician William L. Gaertner, who died suddenly in 1969. A woman who truly lived her Catholic faith, she was proud of her Irish heritage, was open-minded and great fun. Margaret was also a gifted writer and avid reader, who not only raised seven children as a widow, but attended literature classes for many years at the University of Pittsburgh. More recently as a stroke survivor, she met the new challenges this imposed on her with the same courage, dignity and strength that she carried throughout her life. Friends will be received Thursday 6-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at BOCK FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at St. Nicholas Church, Millvale at 10 a.m. (Everyone please meet at the church). Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
