HORNIG MONICA A. (RIORDAN) Age 93, on September 16, 2013, at Asbury Nursing Center in Pittsburgh, PA. She was the beloved wife of the late Ernest W. Hornig. Born to the late George and Dolly Riordan of Harrison, NJ, she was a graduate of St. Vincent's Academy in Newark, NJ and New York University. She received a Master's in Education from Patterson University in Patterson, NJ. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a copywriter for Hahne & Co. and Kresge Department Store in Newark. After marrying in 1946, she and Ernie spent almost 20 years in Latin America where she was employed by several companies. In 1964, they settled in Ridgewood, NJ, where she started a second career as a teacher at Immaculate Conception School in Mahwah, NJ. Following retirement in 1981, Monica and Ernie moved to North Palm Beach, FL where they both committed significant time as volunteers to various service organizations. Monica spent many years as a caregiver with Jewish Family Services of West Palm Beach, FL. She was also a lector at St. Paul of the Cross on Singer Island and at Our Lady of Florida in North Palm Beach. She and her husband travelled extensively throughout their lives, particularly after they retired. Monica delighted in having visited all seven continents. She is survived by her three children, Margaret (J.J.) Bosley of Pittsburgh PA, David (Donna) Hornig of White Plains NY, and Gregory (Beth Goddard) Hornig of Prairie Village, Kansas. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren, Christina (Don) Coulter of Pittsburgh PA, Meredith (Todd) Pollack of NYC, Joellen Hornig of NYC, Barbara (Steve) Trudel of Darien, CT, Christopher (Veronica) Hornig of Brooklyn and Eliza (Kyle Hausmann) Hornig of Brooklyn, as well as seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Monica was predeceased by her sister, Bernice Arthur Cohan of Cleveland, OH; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara J. Hornig of Larchmont, New York. There will be no viewing. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a future date.
